Our Puppies

We Raise Successful Puppies

Each of our litters is born inside our home – not in an outside kennel setting – and is hand-raised with daily interaction. This allows us to monitor them from birth to 8 weeks when they go to their forever home.

We raise our puppies by hand – interacting with them throughout each day of their lives with us. We utilize the Jane Killion and “Puppy Culture” methodology. Her techniques include early neurological stimulation, emotional resiliency exercises, and safe early socialization training.

Because our puppies are raised by-hand in our home, they are continually exposed to the everyday sights and sounds of family life at age appropriate levels; which includes everything from evening music by Mozart to potentially scary sounds like vacuum cleaners, blow dryers and dropped pots. At age appropriate times, this helps their startle reflex as they grow, learning that all sounds are normal and non-threatening.

The techniques featured in Puppy Culture also incorporate age appropriate puzzles, games and problem solving. In fact, one of the more important training exercises is teaching puppies that there are solutions to problems. This helps them learn to solve problems for themselves, which helps reduce frustration in older dogs. One such training technique is barrier training – creating an obstacle between the puppy and their food. Positive reinforcement and consistency are keys to helping them learn and grow through stimulating challenges. This approach helps the puppies learn to think outside the box, and become happy, successful adult dogs.

When our puppies are old enough, and weather permitting, they get time outside on our back deck and in our backyard. This enables them be familiarized with typical outdoor noises, odors, and a variety of textures from grass to shrubbery to trees; accepting life in the great outdoors as the fun part of life. They hear the sounds of children playing, bells ringing, and bus and traffic noises from a nearby school.  Our home and yard are both designed to give the puppies ongoing opportunities to experience as many different textures, sounds and places as possible. We take them on car rides and very short walks on a lead – all in preparation for life in your world.

In an effort to give back to those in need, we work with our puppies to confirm their aptitude for future training as service dogs and/or therapy dogs. This gives the opportunity for those purchasing our puppies to train their dog for service use; in schools, nursing homes, and other community service opportunities.
